Description

Observational drawing is taught by looking carefully at real objects, people and places, and putting down what you see. The lessons begin with a basic drawing setup and then explain how visual perception works. You practise basic shapes and forms, contour drawing, gesture drawing, value and shading, and measuring proportions.

Later lessons apply these skills to still life, perspective, outdoor subjects, portraits and architecture. The last two lessons help you develop a personal style and complete a final observation project. Exercises appear in nearly every PDF, so you can practise on paper as you read. A pencil and some plain paper are enough to begin.
