API Development with REST

Description

REST remains the usual way for web services to talk to each other. This course covers building one in seven PDF lessons, starting with HTTP fundamentals and the principles of REST API design.

You then read about writing your first endpoints, handling JSON and XML, and adding authentication and security. Later lessons deal with testing and debugging, and with documenting and publishing the finished API. Exercises and tables in the PDFs help you follow each step. Afterwards you can lay out the endpoints of a small API, secure it sensibly and write documentation that other developers can follow.

Who it is for: developers and IT staff who want to design and build REST APIs.
