Sashiko Stitching

Description

Sashiko is a Japanese embroidery technique built on the running stitch. These seven PDF lessons start with the tools and materials you need and the history and cultural significance behind the craft.

You then practice the basic running stitch, learn simple methods for transferring patterns to fabric, and look at traditional sashiko thread and needles. A first small project puts these skills together, and the last lesson covers caring for and finishing sashiko pieces. A checklist and several exercises are included in the PDFs. Each lesson is plain reading you can follow at your own pace, with the stitch practice done on fabric of your own.
